A Fun DIY Wall Organizer for Any Room

The plans to build an Urban Outfitters Inspired wall organizer is another that will surely reduce the scrap pile! All it takes are a few pieces of 1/2″ plywood and a scrap of 1/4″ plywood. The embellishments are up to you! This DIY wall organizer features galvanized metal ribbon and porcelain number markers purchased from the hobby store.

Materials:

    • Scraps of 1/2″ plywood (or a quarter sheet of 1/2″ plywood)
    • Edge banding, optional
  • One 2′ x 4′ sheet of 1/4″ plywood
  • Glue (<– affiliate link!)
  • 1-1/4″ brad nails (<– affiliate link!)
  • Scrapbooking paper & spray adhesive
  • Embellishments (I used galvanized ribbon and number plates from the scrapbooking section of the hobby store)

Cut List:

  • Two – 5-3/4″ x 19″ – Top & Bottom
  • Two – 5-3/4″ x 22-1/2″ – Sides
  • Two – 5-3/4″ x 18″ – Horizontal Dividers
  • Two – 5-3/4″ x 22-1/2″ – Vertical Dividers
  • One – 1/4″ plywood at 19″ x 23-1/2″ – Back

Notes about the Project:

  • Edge banding will be applied to the exposed edges of the plywood before assembly
  • Sand each piece before putting it together to make finishing easier

 

Step One

Cut the pieces for the top, bottom, and sides. Assemble as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.

Step Two

Cut the pieces for the dividers. Cut the notches with a jigsaw and assemble as shown. Insert into the box and secure with brad nails through the top, bottom, and sides.

Step Three

Use the spray adhesive to secure the scrapbooking paper to the back. Attach the back to the box using the brad nails.

Step Four

Finish as desired and add any embellishment!

I used oak plywood and didn’t stain it. Purebond plywood, which is what was used in the project, is beautiful and has fabulous grain! I also used Rust-Oleum’s Ultimate Polyurethane in Soft Touch Matte to seal it, with scrapbooking paper that looked like weathered wood for the back of the cabinet.
