DIY Plans to Build the Branson Nesting Tables

Fantastic Tables That Make Use of a Small Space!

Need a larger end table that provides a lot of space but doesn’t take up a lot of room? The DIY plans to build the Branson Nesting Tables are an excellent option! The triangular tables nest together with the smaller table on casters which helps create more table space when needed. The plans are suitable for beginners and can be built in a weekend.

Materials:

  • 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws (<– affiliate link!)
  • 1-1/4″ brad nails
  • Edge banding, optional
  • 3 – 1″ casters
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
  • Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)

Lumber:

  • 2 – 1×2 at 6′
  • 1 – 1×3 at 4′
  • 1 – 1×3 at 6′
  • 1 – 1×3 at 8′
  • 2 – 2×2 at 8′
  • 1 – 4′ x 8′ sheet of 3/4″ plywood

Cut List:

For the smaller table:

  • 4 – 2×2 at 13-1/4″ – Legs
  • 2 – 1×3 at 24″ – Aprons
  • 2 – 1×2 at 24″ – Stretchers
  • 1 – 1×3 at 35-3/4″ – Front Apron
  • 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 28″ x 28″ – Top

For the larger table:

  • 4 – 2×2 at 18-1/4″ – Legs
  • 2 – 1×3 at 32″ – Aprons
  • 2 – 1×2 at 32″ – Stretchers
  • 1 – 1×3 at 47″ – Front Apron
  • 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 36″ x 36″ – Top

DIY Plans to Build the Branson Nesting Tables

Instructions are for the assembly of both tables, except as indicated.

Step One

Edge banding will be applied to the exposed edges of the plywood prior to assembly!

Cut the pieces for the legs, the aprons, and the stretchers. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the stretchers and the aprons. Secure the stretchers to the legs as indicated using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The aprons and stretchers will be positioned 1/4″ back from the outside face of the legs.

Step Two

Cut the piece for the angled front aprons. Cut a 45° bevel in each end of each piece. Secure the to legs using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails positioning the aprons so they are 1/4″ back from the front face of the legs.

Step Three

Cut the pieces for the tops. The tops will overhang the frames by 1/2″ on all sides. Secure the tops in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails through the top pieces into the aprons and legs.

Finish the tables as desired.

For the smaller table only:

Install the casters according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
