Step One
Cut the pieces for the legs. Cut the taper using a jigsaw, bandsaw, or tapering jig on a table saw.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the side frames, side panel, and spacers. Drill pocket holes in each end of the frame pieces as well as the long edges of each panel piece. Attach the frame pieces to the panel piece using glue and 1″ pocket hole screws. The back face of the panel will be flush with the back face of the frame pieces. Attach the panel assemblies to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Three
Cut the pieces for the back frame and panel. Assemble in the same manner as the sides. Attach to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Four
Cut the piece for the shelf. Measure the legs as the point where the shelf will be positioned before cutting the notches, then cut the notches with a jigsaw. Drill pocket holes as shown then attach using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Five
Cut the pieces for the fronts. Drill pocket holes in one end only of the 1×2 pieces, and both long edges of the 1/2″ pieces. Assemble in the same manner as the sides and back. Note that there will be a right and a left piece. Cut the pieces for the supports and drill pocket holes in each end. Attach to the back panel and the fronts as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Six
Cut the piece for the top. It will overlap the frame and legs by 1/2″ on all sides. Use glue and 1-1/4″ brads to secure.
Step Seven
Cut the pieces for the drawer fronts. Note that the upper frame piece will be 1/8″ narrower than the lower frame piece. Drill pocket holes in the long edges of the 1/2″ piece only. Assemble in the same manner as the sides and back.
Step Eight
Cut the pieces for the drawer box. Drill pocket holes in each end of the side pieces as well as all four edges of the bottom. Attach the sides to the bottom using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws, then attach the front and back. The drawer front will be 3/4″ wider than the drawer box.
Install the drawer slides according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Take a look at this easy tutorial on installing drawer slides. Make any necessary adjustments.
Finish as desired!
The free plans to build a Banyan console table would be great constructed out of reclaimed wood or new wood with an old finish! Got a project you’ve completed using my plans?
