Step One
Cut the pieces for the legs. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes along one long edge of each 4-3/4″ wide leg piece. Assemble the leg pieces in an L shape using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the base frame stretchers and drill pocket holes in each end. Secure the stretchers to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws, treating the legs as a left and a right.
Step Three
Cut the piece for the lower top and drill pocket holes in all four edges. Secure the top inside the base frame using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The outside face of the top will be flush with the top edge of the frame.
Step Four
Cut the pieces for the upper top frame. Drill pocket holes in each end of the shorter frame pieces as well as one long edge of each piece. Assemble the frame as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Position the frame on the lower top, locating it 2-3/4″ in from each edge. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Five
Cut the pieces for the upper top and the upper top sides. Drill pocket holes in all four edges of the top. Secure the side pieces (on end) using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The outside face of the top will be flush with the top edge of the sides.
Position the upper top on the upper top frame so that the sides are flush with the base frame legs and stretchers. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
