Build a Headphone Stand

Build a Headphone Stand

My son is a musician and has been for several years. He’s pretty good, too, and I’m not just saying that because I’m his mom… Take a listen to his Soundcloud account.

He asked me if there was any way I could build a headphone stand for his desk (this may be the only time we ever “collaborate” on a project together!), so we sat down and created a design that would work.
Build a Headphone Stand

This headphone stand is an easy build for any skill level, and makes a great weekend project. It can be customized to match any decor or your headphones, like my son did with his.

Materials:

  • 2 – 1×3,  at 9″ long
  • 2 – 1-1/2″ screws
  • Wood glue
  • Drill
  • Jigsaw (<– affiliate link!)

Let’s get started!

Step One

Cut a notch with the jigsaw in one of the 1×3 pieces as shown… This is where the top of the headband will rest. Adjust the width to match yours, if needed!

Step Two

Draw a line across the width at the center of the other board and drill two countersunk holes. Attach the base to the board with the notch as shown using glue and 1-1/2″ screws through the bottom.

Step Three

My son bought himself a pair of “Skullcandy” headphones and painted the stand to match…

Step Four

The headphones came with a skull stencil so we put it on the base…Build a Headphone Stand adding stickers

Step Five

Then sealed the stand with three coats of Rust-Oleum’s Ultimate Polyurethane in Satin and let it thoroughly dry.

The headphones fit perfectly and the stand came out great!!Build a Headphone Stand Finished project

This project was a great way for my son to learn how to use power tools, and how to use his creativity to make something specifically for himself. We had a lot of fun! Have questions about how to build a headphone stand? Leave a comment below!
