An Easy to Build Bench for the Indoors or Outdoors

This fabulous bench with 2×2 legs and a slatted seat can be completed in a weekend. The plans to build a plain bench use off the shelf boards and simple, straight cuts to make the perfect piece for an entry way or covered porch. The leg assemblies stand a little higher than the seat on the sides for a nice modern look, and the bench can be finished however desired!

Step Three

Cut the pieces for the slats. Cut the notches for the legs (as shown) in two of the slats. The remaining three slats will have straight cuts. Secure the slats to the lower leg stretcher and to the rails using glue and 1-1/2″ screws, spacing the slats approximately 1/2″ apart. The two slats that were notched will overhang the outer faces of the rails by approximately 1/4″.
