DIY Small Drawer Knobs

I have this small cabinet I built using 1/2″ walnut plywood. I love walnut and that rich, dark brown. It is my favorite species! Anyway, this cabinet has six drawers that need knobs. Regular cabinet knobs would look huge on the small drawers. I figured the library-label type would be too expensive. So after a bit of thinking I decided on beads! Beads come in all shapes and sizes, and I was sure I could find something that would work… Follow along as I share how to make small drawer knobs with beads ~ it is so incredibly easy!

The small drawer pulls came out better than I expected and only took a few minutes. I found beads that were just what I was looking for – a large opening, sparkly, and in my favorite colors (turquoise and lime!). They are glass and came in a set so that I had enough for the project with a couple left over. I also purchased #6 x 3/4″ screws to attach the beads to the front of the drawers.

I marked the center of each drawer, then inserted the screw into the hole in each bead. Make sure the screw is the right side for the hole in the bead!

Screw the beads into the front of the drawer. Go slow with the drill – cranking the screws in will break the beads!

    • Thank you, Linda! I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner… Though it is probably a good thing otherwise I would have beads on everything!

    • Aww this is a wonderful idea! I have a tiny wooden box that I am redoing and have been struggling with your same issue! Any knobs I find are either too big or too expensive for this tiny projects budget. Thanks for sharing this amazing idea!
