Free Furniture Plans to Build a Rustic Bench

Materials:

  • 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws (<– affiliate link!)
  • 2-1/2″ screws
  • 3″ screws
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
  • Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)

Lumber:

  • 1 – 2×2 at 6′
  • 1 – 2×3 at 4′
  • 2 – 2×4 at 6′
  • 1 – 2×6 at 4′
  • 1 – 2×6 at 8′

Cut List:

  • 3 – 2×6 at 36-1/4″ – Seat
  • 2 – 2×3 at 16″ – Seat Supports
  • 4 – 2×4 at 17″ – Legs
  • 2 – 2×2 at 9″ – Side Stretchers
  • 1 – 2×2 at 30-1/2″ – Long Stretchers

Step One

Cut the pieces for the seat and the seat supports. Cut a 10° bevel along on edge of each 2×3 seat support. Position the supports so that the angle faces to the outside, then secure to the seat boards using glue and countersunk 2-1/2″ screws.

Step Two

Cut the pieces for the legs and side stretchers. Cut a 10° angle in the top and bottom of each leg as shown.

With the pocket hole jig set for 1-1/2″ material and drill pocket holes in each end of the side stretchers. Secure to the legs as shown using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws.

Secure the leg assemblies to the angled edge of the seat support using glue and countersunk 3″ screws.

Step Three

Cut the piece for the lower stretcher and cut a 10° angle in each end as shown. Secure to the side stretchers using glue and countersunk 3″ screws.

Finish as desired.
