An Easy to Build End Table with a Country Vibe

This is an easy to build end table that can fit into any decor… The DIY plans to build a Lila End Table feature a large top, bun feet, and a center shelf. This table would be fabulous located between two chairs in a sitting room or if built in a pair, would make an excellent coffee table!

Materials:

  • 1″ pocket hole screws
  • 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws (<– affiliate link!)
  • 2-1/2″ screws
  • 1-1/4″ brad nails
  • Edge banding, optional
  • 4 – 4″ bun-style furniture feet with plates
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
  • Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)

Lumber:

  • 2 – 1×2 at 8′
  • 1 – 2×2 at 8′
  • 1 – 2′ x 4′ sheet of 1/2″ plywood
  • 1 – 4′ x 8′ sheet of 3/4″ plywood

Cut List:

  • 4 – 2×2 at 22-1/2″ – Legs
  • 4 – 1×2 at 20″ – Side Frames
  • 2 – 1/2″ plywood at 19-1/2″ x 20″ – Side Panels
  • 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 24″ x 28″ – Bottom
  • 2 – 1×2 at 24″ – Stretchers
  • 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 20″ x 25″ – Shelf
  • 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 21″ x 25″ – Top Panel
  • 2 – 1×2 at 21″ – Top Trim
  • 2 – 1×2 at 28″ – Top Trim

Step One

Edge banding will be applied to the exposed edges of the plywood prior to assembly!

Cut the pieces for the legs, the side frames, and the side panels. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the framing pieces. Secure the framing pieces to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Locate the framing pieces 1/4″ back from the outside face of the legs.

Set the pocket hole jig for 1/2″ material and drill pocket holes in all four edges of the panels. Secure the panels to the legs and the framing pieces using glue and 1″ pocket hole screws. The back face of the panels will be flush with the back face of the framing pieces.

Step Two

Secure the sides to the bottom using glue and countersunk 2-1/2″ screws. Position the sides so they are 1/2″ away from each edge on all sides.

Step Three

Cut the pieces for the stretchers. Set the pocket hole jig for 3/4″ material and drill pocket holes in each end of the stretchers. Secure the stretchers to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Locate the stretchers 1/4″ back from the outside face of the legs.

Step Four

Cut the piece for the shelf. Position the shelf as shown securing in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails through the side panels into the ends of the shelf.

Step Five

Cut the pieces for the top panel and the top trim. Drill pocket holes in all four edges of the panel as well as each end of the shorter trim pieces. Secure the side trim pieces first using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Secure the front and back trim pieces in the same manner.

Position the top on the frame so that the top overhangs by 1/2″ on all sides. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.

Step Six

Attach the bun feet and the plates to the underside of the bottom according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Finish as desired.
