Easy to Build Storage for a Bedroom
When I built my daughter’s new bed, I promised to make more storage in her room, as well. The DIY plans to build Rolling Under-Bed Storage Boxes are constructed exactly like a drawer box and include small casters on the bottom. They are really easy to build and are easily customizable to any size!
Materials:
- 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws
- 4 – 1-1/2″ casters (<– affiliate link!)
- 1″ screws
- Drawer handle
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
- Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)
Lumber:
- 1 – 1×6 at 4′
- 1 – 1×6 at 8′
- 1 – 4′ x 4′ sheet of 1/4″ plywood
Cut List:
- 2 – 1×6 at 28-1/2″ – Sides
- 2 – 1×6 at 36″ – Front & Back
- 1 – 1/4″ plywood at 28-7/8″ x 34-7/8″ – Bottom
Step One
Cut the pieces for the sides, front and back. Cut a 1/4″ deep by 1/4″ wide groove in the lower edge of each piece. The grooves can be cut by using a tablesaw or a router with a straight bit.
With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the side pieces, on the same face as the groove.
Step Two
Secure the sides to the back piece using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Three
Cut the piece for the bottom and slide it in the grooves in the sides and back pieces.
Step Four
Insert the front edge of the bottom piece into the groove, then secure the bottom with glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Finish as desired.
Step Five
Secure the casters to each of the bottom corners using 1″ screws. Mark the position for the drawer handle and drill the holes. Secure the handle to the box using the provided screws.
Depending on the size of the bed, several of these boxes can be made to fit underneath. I made two because the bed is a twin bed. Have any questions about the DIY plans to build Rolling Under-Bed Storage Boxes? Leave a comment below!
