How to Change a Furnace Filter with 3M Filtrete Filters
I have partnered with 3M to write this post about home indoor air quality. I was compensated with a few of the 3M Filtrete filters to use to help with the air quality in my home!
Do you regularly change the filters in the heating and cooling system? How often? Did you know that even if the filters are changed regularly there is still a chance of contaminants in the air? I didn’t know that either and that is where 3M Filtrete Filters come in by helping to reduce the amount of pollutants in the air in the home.
If you’ve been following Designs by Studio C, you may remember that Matt and I remodeled a home we called the Rebel house. I posted a photo of the furnace filter that obviously hadn’t been changed in quite awhile. Can you imagine what the air quality in that house must have been like?
A few of the contributors to home air pollutants (besides not changing the filters regularly) are personal care products (hair spray, perfumes, etc.), pets and their dander, secondhand smoke, and even a heating system outside of the regular furnace such as a wood burning stove, pellet stove, or gas heater. These pollutants can contribute to asthma, allergies, and respiratory infections.
3M Filtrete Filters were designed to help reduce the amount of pollutants in the home. The Healthy Living filters are 90% effective at capturing particles in the air passing through the filter. The filters are also designed to attract and capture particles that carry bacteria and viruses. They also last for up to three months so they don’t need to be changed as often.
Let me show you how easy it is to change the filters in your furnace…
The filter is normally located on or near the furnace system. Mine looks like this:
…and is located right next to the dryer which makes proper filtering that much more important! Vacuum any dust off of the outside of the grill.
Remove the grill, then remove the old filter. Throw the old filter away.
Insert the new filter, then replace the grill. That is all there is to it!
