Step One
Edge banding will be applied to the exposed edges of the plywood prior to assembly.
Cut the pieces for the legs and the center side panels. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes along each long edge of the center side panels. Secure the panels to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The outside face of the panels will be flush with the outside face of the legs.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the center shelves. Position the shelves so they are flush with the back face of the legs – leaving the shelves 3/4″ back from the front face of the legs. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Three
Cut the pieces for the outer side framing and the outer side panels. Drill pocket holes in each end of the framing pieces. Secure the framing pieces to the legs using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. the back face of the framing pieces will be flush with the inside faces of the legs.
Set the pocket hole jig for 1″ material and drill pocket holes in all four edges of the outer side panels. Secure the panels to the framing and legs using glue and 1″ pocket hole screws. The back face of the panel will be flush with the inside face of the legs and framing pieces.
Step Four
Cut the pieces for the outer side shelves. Cut the notches using a jigsaw. Drill pocket holes in each end as shown in the drawing, treating the pieces as left and right – there will be three of each. Secure the shelves to the corresponding outer side and center side using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The front edge of the shelves are flush with the back which also places them 1-1/2″ back from the front face of the legs.
Step Five
Cut the pieces for the back panels. Secure the back panels over the back of the outer side assemblies using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Six
Cut the piece for the top. The top will be flush with the legs on all sides. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Seven
Cut the pieces for the door frame. Assemble the frame as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Cut the Plexiglas or acrylic for the doors. Pre-drill a hole in each corner and secure the material to the doors using 3/4″ screws. Install the hinges on the doors, then install the doors in the openings. Install the cabinet pulls.
Finish as desired.
The door panels can also be made of 1/4″ plywood, decorative punched aluminum or speaker cloth. The media console would also make a great console table for the dining room or entryway! Have any questions about the DIY plans to build a Connor Media Console? Leave a comment below!

What hides the plywood sides of the top piece?
Sorry for the delayed reply, Dan! Edge banding would hide the exposed edges of the plywood. Hope this helps!
