Easy DIY Leather Wrapped End Table Tutorial
Bring a unique and stylish touch to your home by building an end table with a leather top. With this easy-to-follow DIY guide, you’ll be able to craft the perfect leather top end table in no time at all.
Gather Supplies and Tools
To start, obviously you’ll need all the materials and tools for your project. Your list will be small — all you need is a round piece of wood at least 18″ in diameter, a set of four 18″ hairpin legs (<– affiliate link!), a piece of leather or faux leather for the top, rubber cement and some staples. You may also want additional supplies like sandpaper, primer, paint and paintbrush or spray paint to customize the look. And of course you’ll need a power drill and stapler to put it all together.
Let’s Get Started!
For my leather top end table, I started with a plain wooden round for the table top that I purchased at the home improvement store. After making sure to elevate it off the work surface on something like a bucket, I applied a coat of rubber cement to the top and sides. This would provide a surface that the leather would adhere to easily.
Take the piece of leather and center it over the wood surface, smoothing out any wrinkles or creases. Gently pull the edges tight around the sides of the wood and press down to secure it in place.
Flip the wood round over, and apply the rubber cement to the back side. Smooth the leather down over the adhesive, and secure it toward the center using a stapler and staples. Trim away the excess leather.
Before securing the hairpin legs to the underside of the table, the legs can be spray painted for a different look. I chose to leave mine solid black. Secure the hairpin legs to the underside of the table using 1-1/2″ screws.
