A Beautiful Cabinet That Can Be Finished in a Variety of Ways
This cabinet is another one of those really easy projects that can be built quickly and inexpensively! The Biltmore cabinet plans feature two shelves inside and dual-hinged doors which makes it the perfect piece for storing linens, extra table settings, or even books and craft supplies!
Materials:
- 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws
- 5/8″ brad nails
- 1-1/4″ brad nails
- 4 sets of hinges (<– affiliate link)
- 2 cabinet pulls
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
- Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)
Lumber:
- 1 – 1×2 at 6′
- 4 – 1×2 at 8′
- 1 – 1×3 at 4′
- 1 – 2′ x 4′ sheet of 1/4″ plywood
- 1 – 4′ x 4′ sheet of 1/4″ plywood
- 1 sheet of 3/4″ plywood
Cut List:
- 2 – 3/4″ plywood at 13-1/4″ x 41-1/2″ – Sides
- 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 13-1/4″ x 40-1/2″ – Bottom
- 2 – 3/4″ plywood at 13″ x 40-1/2″ – Shelves
- 1 – 1/4″ plywood at 39-3/4″ x 41-1/2″ – Back
- 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 14-1/4″ x 42″ – Top
- 1 – 1×3 at 42″ – Lower Trim
- 8 – 1×2 at 38-3/4″ – Door Stiles
- 12 – 1×2 at 7-3/8″ – Door Rails
- 2 – 1/4″ plywood at 8-3/8″ x 36-3/4″ – Door Panels

Step One
Cut the pieces for the sides and the bottom. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the bottom piece. Secure to the sides as shown (positioning the piece 1-3/4″ up from the bottom edge of the sides) using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the shelves and drill pocket holes in each end. Secure to the sides as shown with the back edge flush with the back edge of the sides using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Three
Cut the piece for the back panel. Secure to the sides, shelves, and bottom using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The top edge will be flush with the top edge of the sides.
Step Four
Cut the piece for the top. The front edge will overhang by 3/4″, and the back edge will be flush with the back panel. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Five
Cut the piece for the lower trim. Mark the position of the arc and cut using a jigsaw or bandsaw. Secure the lower trim in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Six
Cut the pieces for the door frames. Drill pocket holes in each end of the shorter pieces. Assemble the frames as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Seven
Cut the pieces for the door panels. Secure in place, centered over the frame openings, using glue and 5/8″ brad nails.
Step Eight
The center doors will be hinged to the outer doors so that they will fold when opened. Install the hinges on the doors, then install the hinges for the outer doors on the cabinet. Install the cabinet pulls in the desired position.
Finish as desired!
The Biltmore cabinet plans are excellent as a first project and can be constructed in a weekend! This DIY linen storage cabinet would work well in a bathroom to store toiletries or clean towels, as well as in a bedroom to store clothing or shoes.
