A Beautiful Knock Off Console Table
Previously, I posted plans to build the Hammary Luberon Coffee Table. Today I am sharing free plans to build a Hammary inspired Luberon console table requested by Kim C. I love the chunky look of this collection and hope you do, too! Thanks for the request, Kim C!
Materials:
- 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws
- 1-1/4″ screws
- 2-1/2″ screws
- 1-1/4″ brad nails
- Edge banding for the plywood, if desired
- Finishing supplies
Lumber:
- Scraps of 1×3 at 16″ (2 pieces)
- 6 – 2×2 at 8′
- 1 – 2×4 at 6′
- 2 – 2×6 at 8′
- 1 – half sheet of 3/4″ plywood
Cut List:
- 4- 2×6 at 27-1/2″ – Legs
- 7 – 2×2 at 13″ – Shelf & Top Supports
- 6 – 2×2 at 45″ – Stretchers
- 2 – 3/4″ plywood at 16″ x 45″ – Shelves
- 2 – 1×3 at 16″ – Outer Stretchers
- 2 – 2×2 at 18-1/2″ – Top
- 1 – 2×2 at 15-1/2″- Top
- 2 – 2×2 at 52-1/2″ – Top
- 8 – 2×4 at 24″ – Top
- 2 – 2×6 at 24″ – Top
Step One
Cut the pieces for the legs and shelf supports. Drill pocket holes in each end of the shelf supports. Secure the supports to the legs as shown using glue and 2-1/2″ countersunk screws. Orient the pocket holes so they face up and will be hidden by the shelves and top.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the stretchers. Secure to the shelf supports using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws.
Step Three
Cut the piece for the top center support and drill pocket holes in each end. Position as shown and secure with glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws.
Step Four
Cut the pieces for the shelves and apply edge banding if desired. Secure to the supports and stretchers using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Five
Cut the pieces for the outer stretchers. Secure in place as shown using glue and countersunk 1-1/4″ screws.
Step Six
Cut the pieces for the top. Cut a 45 degree miter in each end of the 2×2 pieces except for the 16-1/2″ piece, which is the center piece. Pocket holes can be drilled in the mitered ends of the shorter pieces to keep the corners secure or metal corner brackets can be used.
Cut the pieces for the panels and drill pocket holes in each end, as well as one long edge of the outer 2×4 pieces (as shown). The panels can be assembled by edge gluing the pieces together, or by drilling pocket holes. Drill pocket in each end of the center piece (the 16-1/2″ 2×2 piece). Secure the center piece to each panel using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws, then attach the trim pieces in the same manner.
Position the top on the table frame and secure using glue and countersunk 2-1/2″ screws through the underside of the upper shelf support and center support into the top. The top will overlap the sides by 1-1/2″ and the front/back by 1-1/4″.
Finish as desired!
The free plans to build a Hammary inspired Luberon console table are very easy to construct and are super-inexpensive! Paired with the coffee table, it would be a great set!
