Notes About the Project:

  • Sand all pieces before assembly
  • Note that some sections of the bed use glue and some do not – this is so the bed can be broken down to move later if needed
  • 1-1/2” pocket hole screws can be used to secure the side rails if desired

Step One

Cut the pieces for the footboard. Set the pocket hole jig for 3/4” material and drill pocket holes in each end of the 1x framing pieces.

Step Six

Cut the piece for the center slat support and legs. Drill pocket holes in each end of the longer piece and secure to the center of the footboard and headboard support, locating it approximately 4-1/2” from the bottom edge of the footboard framing to the top of the support using 1-1/4” pocket hole screws ONLY. DO NOT USE GLUE.

Secure the three pieces for the legs, evenly spaced along the center support, using glue and 1-1/2” screws.

Step Seven

Measure the distance between the rails on the inside and subtract about 1/8”, then cut the pieces for the slats at this dimension. Secure the slats to the slat supports including the center using 1-1/2” screws. To reduce the number of screws, consider making a set of connected slats as outlined in this guide!
