Notes About the Project:
Measure the mirror for the exact dimensions and make adjustments to the base, frame and shelf as necessary. There should be at least 1/8″ of space for the mirror. Sand all of the pieces prior to assembly. The frame will be finished before the mirror is attached.
Step One
Cut the pieces for the base and the frame. Secure the side pieces of the frame to the base using glue and 1-1/2″ brad nails. The back edge of the frame pieces will be flush with the back face of the base.
Secure the top and bottom frame pieces to the base and side frame pieces using glue and 1-1/2″ brad nails.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the shelf. The back edge of the shelf will rest against the base. Secure the shelf in place using glue and 1-1/2″ brad nails.
Finish the frame as desired.
Step Three
Apply mirror adhesive to the base, and place the mirror in the opening. Install the D-tab hangers on the back of the frame and hang where desired using screws in wall studs or the appropriate wall anchors.
The mirror can be replaced in the shelf with cork, a chalkboard or a dry erase board for a different look. Have questions about the DIY furniture plans to build a Durant wall mirror? Leave a comment below!
