Build a Dog Bed From a Drawer
We have a new member of the Designs by Studio C household… His name is Pokey. He’s only a couple of months old but is the sweetest friend ever! He likes sticks, his “baby”, and his blanket. He’s currently learning that he has to conduct his business outside (not on my rug) and is definitely making progress. He is my son’s new roomie and I figured he would need a properly awesome bed!
I have some drawer boxes I built in error. They were for the file cabinet plans I posted awhile back but I built them too wide. Yes, I know the “measure twice, cut once” rule but I managed to have a brain fade after I measured the opening. It happens. They were gathering sawdust under the carport until I decided to use one for Pokey’s new bed. (The others will be used for another project to be posted at a later date!)
I started by cutting a piece of Dacron upholstery batting and fabric to cover the outside of the drawer. I secured the fabric and batting to the side with a few staples. I wrapped the fabric around the sides and secured it with a couple of upholstery tacks.
Then I folded the fabric and batting over the top and bottom, and secured it on the inside with staples.
I covered a scrap piece of foam with Dacron, then made a fabric cover for it. I put a velcro strip on the side so that the cover could be removed to be laundered.
I inserted the foam “bed” into the drawer and let Pokey take a look…
He seems happy with it! Ok, not really but I know a couple of cats who will love it!!
