Easy to Make Wall Decor
The Han is obsessed with the Eiffel Tower. She wants an Eiffel Tower decoration – actually a statue – for her room so badly but I’m trying to transition her room from “tween” to teen and we just don’t need any more clutter! I saw a really cute Eiffel Tower wall decoration at my local craft store. I thought it was too expensive at $49.99 (yikes!). Since I have plenty of wood scraps and paint, I figured I’d make a scaled-down version.
Materials:
- Clip art, enlarged
- Plywood (I used 3/8″ thick)
- Jigsaw (<– affiliate link!)
- Sandpaper
- Paint & stencil
- Sawtooth hanger or soda can tab with washer & screw
I started by finding an Eiffel Tower silhouette on the internet. I used one of my photo programs to enlarge the clip, then printed it using Paint so it would print on multiple pages. I taped the sheets together to form the pattern. I still needed to simplify the silhouette, so I folded the sheet in half with the center of the Eiffel Tower at the fold so that both sides would be symmetrical. I redrew the sides and cut out the pattern.
Using a pencil, I traced the pattern on the piece of plywood and cut it out. I had enough material to cut out one for The Han and one for her long-lost “sister”, Big Al.
I used sandpaper to smooth out the edges as well as the flat surfaces. I started with 80 grit, then 150 grit, and finished with 220 grit. I painted the entire piece black.
Once it was dry, I used a swirly stencil and glittery paint to glam it up for The Han and Big Al.
I added soda can tab hanger and hung it above The Han’s bed. She’ll save the other one and surprise Big Al later!
