Build a Monterrey Side Table

Free DIY Woodworking Plans

The free DIY woodworking plans to build a Monterrey Side Table are incredibly easy… In fact, I built the table in a day! It took longer to finish it than it did to build but I am extremely happy with the results! I like that it has three drawers which is plenty of room for storing odds and ends. Plus, it would be fabulous as a nightstand!

I painted mine in a rusty red mistake paint I had in the closet. I wiped Vaseline on the areas where I didn’t want the paint to stick. I applied vinyl decals to the top and drawer fronts, then put a final coat of paint in a turquoise-y mistake paint. I used my trusty sanding sponge to remove the paint from the edges and the Vaseline areas, then added knobs I spray painted using Rust-Oleum’s 2x Ultra Cover in Dark Walnut. I love the way it came out with a bohemian look!

Step One

Cut the pieces for the legs, the side frames, the side panels, and the side aprons. Cut the notch in the aprons using a jigsaw, then drill pocket holes in the edge opposite the notch. Drill pocket holes in each end of the frame pieces as well as each side of the panels. Attach the frame pieces to the top and bottom of the panels using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails. (This way, there won’t be as many pocket holes to drill!) Orient the pocket holes in the frame pieces so they are facing away from the center panel and position the pieces so the back edge of the panel is flush with the back edge of the frame pieces. Attach to the legs as shown using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Attach the apron to the bottom frame piece using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. The back face of the apron will be flush with the back edge of the frame piece – in line with the panel!
