Build a Folsom Coffee Table Knockoff

Inspired by a Catalog Retailer

This table is the perfect project for first-time builders… The easy to build Folsom coffee table knockoff, inspired by Pottery Barn, uses off-the-shelf lumber in a super-easy plan! The sides and top are plywood with face frames on either side, and can be finished however you choose. This table would look great in a two-tone combo (because I’m a total fan of white paint and stained wood!) or just unfinished.

Notes About the Project:

  • Apply edge banding to the shorter ends only of the top to cover the exposed edges of the plywood
  • Sand all pieces prior to assembly
  • There is no need to assemble the face frame before securing the pieces to the table but if you want to do it, go for it!

Step One

Cut the pieces for the sides and the shelf. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the shelf as well as one shorter edge of each side piece. Secure the shelf to the sides using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.

Step Two

Cut the piece for the top and apply edge banding to the shorter edges. Secure the top to the sides using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.

Step Three

Cut the pieces for the face frame to length, then cut 45° miters in each end of each piece. Secure the frame pieces to the outside edges of the table. The top edge of the face frame will be flush with the top face on both sides, and the top edge of the bottom face frame piece will be flush with the top face of the shelf. Secure in place using glue and 2″ brad nails.

Fill any holes left by the brad nails, then finish as desired!

This super-easy plan is part of a collection, and I plan on adding several more pieces like this one. Check back often and search for “Folsom” to find them all!
