- 1 – 1/4″ plywood at 16-3/8″ x 35-1/4″ – Back
Notes About the Project:
- Apply edge banding to the exposed edges of the plywood before assembly.
- Sanding each piece individually will make finishing much easier!
- The aprons for the base are cut from the plywood – 1x3s can also be used, if desired.
- A taper can be cut in each leg but remember to keep the top 2-1/2″ free for the aprons!
Step One
Cut the pieces for the sides and bottom. With the pocket hole jig set for 3/4″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the bottom piece. Secure the bottom to the sides using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Two
Cut the piece for the shelf and drill pocket holes in each end. Secure the shelf to the sides using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
Step Three
Cut the pieces for the dividers. Mark the position on the bottom as well as the underside of the shelf. Secure the dividers using glue and 2″ brad nails through the top of the shelf and the underside of the bottom.
Step Four
Cut the piece for the shelf stretcher. Secure to the back edge of the shelf using glue and 2″ brad nails.
Step Five
Cut the piece for the top. Secure the top to the sides using glue and 2″ brad nails.
Step Six
Cut the pieces for the legs, and cut a taper in each of the pieces if desired. Cut the pieces for the bottom frame aprons, and drill pocket holes in each end of each piece. Assemble the bottom frame as shown (the tapers on the legs will face inward) using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws making sure that the inside faces of the aprons are flush with the inside faces of the legs.
Secure the bottom frame to the bottom of the cabinet using glue and 2″ brad nails from the top of the bottom piece into the top of the frame.
Step Seven
Cut the piece for the back. Secure the back using 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Finish as desired!
