An Easy to Build Weathered Laundry Cart
The rustic and weathered wood look is still really popular… The DIY plans to build a Rustic Laundry Cart can be built from old reclaimed wood for that truly authentic weathered look or it can be built using new wood made to look old! The cart features cut-out handles and vintage casters, and can also be personalized with anything you choose to add to that industrial vibe!
Materials:
- 1-1/4″ brad nails
- Edge banding, optional (<– affiliate link!)
- 4 – 3″ vintage-look casters
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper (100, 150, 220 grits)
- Finishing supplies (primer & paint, or stain, sealer)
Lumber:
The plan is written for the use of plywood, which is an economical choice. If pallet boards or reclaimed wood will be used, piece narrow pieces together using pocket holes and screws, or mending plates.
- 1 – 4′ x 8′ sheet of 3/4″ plywood
Cut List:
- 1 – 3/4″ plywood at 14″ x 14-1/8″ – Bottom
- 2 – 3/4″ plywood at 18″ x 26″ – Sides
- 2 – 3/4″ plywood at 15-1/2″ x 26-1/8″ – Ends
Step One
Edge banding will be applied to the exposed edges of the plywood prior to assembly.
Cut the piece for the bottom. Cut a 5° bevel in each of the 14″ edges. The bevels will face opposite directions (toward the bottom).
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the sides. Secure the sides to the straight edges of the bottom using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Step Three
Cut the pieces for the ends. Mark the position for the cut-outs. Use a 1-1/2″ paddle bit and a jigsaw to cut the handles. See the post on cutting handholes for reference.
Secure the ends to the bottom and the sides (make sure the the beveled edges are lined up with the top and bottom of the sides) using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Finish as desired, then install the casters.
This would be a great cart for a boy’s room or for the man cave! It would also be useful in storing kids’ toys in a playroom or as a fabric scrap bin in a craft room! Have any questions about the DIY plans to build a Rustic Laundry Cart? Leave a comment below!
