The Perfect First Project!
This is an easy-to-build yet striking coffee table. I love the “crossed” legs and the square, roomy top! The Regency coffee table plans also feature solid wood edging on the plywood top so that a decorative edge can be routed on it. The plan requires straight off-the-shelf lumber and is a very inexpensive build!

Step One
Cut the pieces for the frames. Mark the position for the notches in each of the longer 2×4 pieces. Cut the notches using a jigsaw, a bandsaw, or by making a series of kerfs on the table saw. With the pocket hole jig set for 1-1/2″ material, drill pocket holes in each end of the longer frame pieces. Secure the shorter pieces to the longer pieces using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws.
Step Two
Cut the pieces for the top panel and the trim pieces. Set the pocket hole jig for 3/4″ material and drill pocket holes in each end of the trim pieces as well as all four edges of the panel. Secure the shorter trim pieces to the panel using glue and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws, then secure the longer trim pieces in the same manner.
Position the top on the base so that the top overhangs by 6″ on all sides. Secure the top to the base using glue and 1-1/4″ brad nails.
Finish as desired!
Wouldn’t the top be fabulous using the glue-resist technique? I may have to add the Regency coffee table plans to my to build list! Have any questions? Contact me at cher {at} designsbystudioc {dot} com!
