Different Types of Drawer Slides…

Choose the Right Drawer Slide for Your Project!

When it comes to choosing the right drawer slide for your project, there are several different types to consider. Whether you’re looking for something simple and functional or a more advanced option, understanding the different types of drawer slides can help you make the best choice for your needs. From ball-bearing slides to undermount slides, learn about the various options available and find the perfect fit for your drawers.

There are various types of drawer slides available, each with its own unique features and benefits. One common type is the low-profile drawer slide, which is affordable and easy to install. These slides are typically placed at the bottom of the drawer and are suitable for lighter-weight drawers, such as those found in nightstands or dressers. They can also be used for pullout trays in desks for keyboards. However, it’s important to note that the length options for these slides may be limited in some home improvement stores.

Another popular option is the ball-bearing type of drawer slide. These slides offer the advantage of being able to be positioned anywhere on the drawer, not just at the bottom. They also provide a smooth sliding motion, making it easy to open and close the drawer. Additionally, ball-bearing slides are ideal for handling heavier drawers, such as a trash bin in the kitchen. Installing them is also made easier with the use of a drawer slide jig (<– affiliate link!).

The Blum Tandembox slides (<– affiliate link!) are unique as they combine both the slide and drawer side into one unit. They are designed to be self-closing, making them convenient and easy to use. Installing them is a straightforward process, and many people find them to be a great addition to their kitchen or other areas of the home. The Blum Tandembox slides are particularly popular for their durability and ability to prevent slamming, making them a great choice for households with children or individuals who prefer a quieter closing mechanism.

In that article, I show how to install the drawer slides explained above except for the Tandembox because they are installed the same way as the ball-bearing slides.
